Post About Food!

Colin has started eating lots of new foods in the past few days, so I thought I would devote a post to what his meals look like right now. This is one of those things that I want to document for posterity. :-)

Bottles: Colin takes three bottles during the day and he very rarely makes any changes to the schedule. Each bottle is 7 or 8 ounces. He takes them at around 7:30am, 12:00pm, and 5:00pm. One funny thing...Colin is not interested in eating immediately after he wakes up in the morning, despite having no bottles during the night anymore. He wakes up at 6:00am every day, but he won't even look at a bottle until 7:00am or later. I think that is funny because I am not big on breakfast when I first wake up either. I like to think that is a little mom trait coming out. :-)

Food: Colin always eats breakfast at around 8:30am, lunch sometime around 1:00pm, and dinner at around 6:15pm.

BREAKFAST: He always eats a YoBaby Yogurt or Oatmeal with Apples and Cinnamon (baby food). Sometimes he will have some scrambled egg or waffles on the weekends if we cook breakfast for ourselves.

LUNCH: For lunch today he had bite size pieces of chicken nuggets, cheddar cheese cubes, and watermelon. I try to always give him cut up pieces of fresh fruit and cheese at lunch, which he really enjoys. He used to always eat a jar of baby food fruit and veggie and lunch, but lately that is becoming really hard to pull off. He likes to feed himself and starts to swipe at the spoon a lot. Breakfast is still working because he loves that yogurt, but even that is getting harder.

DINNER: I have started letting him try whatever we are eating and the results have been great. Last night he had some of the Eggplant Parm that I made and loved it. However, his stomach kept him up off and on until 11pm last night, so I think that one might have been a bit much for him. Tonight I made a pineapple chicken over brown rice and he ate that, as well as diced peaches that he fed himself. He still has several stage 3 dinners that he likes and I am feeding him those off and on as well. I am starting to only feed those if what I make is too spicy or something he should not eat.

Picky Eating, Here We Come!

Colin has officially entered his first hunger strike. Well, not really a hunger strike so much as a certain foods strike. He will eat the following:

Peach Puffs
Cheerios
Ritz Crackers
Mild Cheddar Lil' Crunchies
Fruit only baby foods
Yogurt

He normally eats lots of other stuff baby food wise. At the moment, he won't eat any of the veggies, even his favorites. He won't eat any of the pastas, or any of the breakfast foods he normally loves. He would not take a single bite of his oatmeal this morning and ate yogurt for the 6th day in a row! He has cut way back on his formula...he takes bottles at 7:30am, noonish and 5:30ish. Since I added the lunch solids, he has really made a change on the formula consumption. I think that the more I am introducing table foods to him, the more he is shunning the baby foods which are pretty bland in comparison. Luckily I have several friends who have gone through this stage (Shannon!) so I know that it is normal and he will work through it. I also heard that teething causes them to not eat much and lord knows we have that going on. His poor top teeth are still just little white spots and have not poked all the way through yet. They are torturing him!

Tomorrow I have a happy hour party to attend for one of my best friends and Jer is watching Colin for me. I am looking forward to a couple of hours of grown up conversation and it should be a great time. Then on Saturday I am actually having my hair cut and colored and a pedicure!!!!! This is a HUGE deal for me...these are my birthday presents courtesy of Jer's parents. I am getting my very first whole afternoon to myself since Colin was born and I am pretty excited about it. My hair looks horrible, so this is a very good thing! :-)

Good food and good curls!

I tried to take some pictures of Colin tonight while we were changing into our pj's...his hair is so curly at the moment and I wanted to attempt to capture it on film. It did not work out too well with the dark chair in the background, but he is super cute, so I posted them anyway. :-)

Tonight will go down in history. We went to dinner at our favorite little Mexican place and ordered the guacamole as usual. Jer asked me if I thought it would be alright to let Colin have some and I figured it would be fine to let him try it. Colin has not really liked any table food that I have given him so far. He always just spits whatever it is out and then plays with it. I knew the same thing was about to happen...their guac is not hot spicy, but has lots of flavors including garlic, onions, salt, and lemon juice. There was no way Colin was going for it. I was COMPLETELY wrong! I should have known...Colin adores guacamole! He seriously would have eaten the entire plate if I had let him! He did not even get any on him! There were no misses! He ate every single bite I gave him and begged for more! That is my baby!! ;-) Not only that, but he also tried to eat all of my beans as well!! I just can't get over it! Two brand new foods and he was eating them with a passion! Jer and I would eat Mexican food for every meal, so it was just too funny that Colin was all over it. We were all laughing for the entire meal. He also was picking up pieces of my rice and putting them in his mouth!! What a fun night...it made me so happy to see my little man love something that we gave him. Now...if he sleeps well tonight...I am going to buy avocados and refried beans in the morning! haha!! :-)
